Hello Friend,
Have you wondered about how you see the world and why you see it the way you do? It’s an essential thing to wonder.
How we see the world can be pretty restrictive. We create these illusions based on emotions, anxieties and limited information then we fight like hell to maintain that “created reality.” Our mind stays made up and there really is very little an outsider can do to alter the illusion.
We form and end relationships, have conversations and make decisions on the basis of what supports our views/illusions and what does not. Minds made up, we go into the world just clinging to all that is in agreement.
Just imagine how this myopic approach impacts our ability to create new habits. If we don’t deeply believe that a new habit will be consistent with our view of the world, that habit will not get formed. Guaranteed.
It’s hard enough as it is to summon up the self-discipline and commitment to daily action steps we need to take, in order to create new habits…fighting your own mindset and perspective adds a level of difficulty that is just overwhelming for most.
Top Seven Tips to Stay Open and Growing:1. Align your desire for that new habit with your present and/or preferred view of the world2. Be crystal clear about why the new habit is needed and how it takes your perspective to new heights3. Challenge yourself to think critically and read/listen/converse with a desire to learn4. Don’t take your feelings and preferences for granted…examine why they are what they are, making sure to uncover the beliefs that underpin our emotions and strong opinions. Sometimes they aren’t so obvious5. Know your top 3 beliefs – write them, discuss them and explore where they came from6. Ask a trusted friend, coach or mentor for feedback – “Are my actions in alignment with what I say my beliefs are?”7. Be a ‘fly on the wall’ and objectively observe yourself!
Often we just assume our thoughts, habits, perspectives and emotions are a given; they are what they are and they are who we are. THEY ARE NOT! We have the ability to influence and direct them, honoring the highest and best of our self. We just have to remain open and eager to grow and learn. These 7 actions will ensure continued growth and learning.
Wishing you abundant success,
~♥~
