Count your “I can’ts” and your “I cans”

November 24, 2010 by Julette Leave a Comment

During this long holiday weekend, just for one day keep track of how many times you say “I can’t” to yourself or to others and the number of times you say “I can.”  You can include in there all the variations like:

“I’m so stupid”                                                                  “I’m not really smart”

“I never do things right”                                                 “I always try my best”

“I’m a mess”                                                                      “I really have it together”

“Here I go again…”                                                           “I can’t wait to work this one out!”

“I hate myself”                                                                  “I love myself”

And on and on and on….

Just keep track.  I doubt seriously you need to hear anything from me about the power of negative and positive self-talk.

It clearly is what defines and creates our attitude, emotions, beliefs and actions.

Here are a few of my favorite quotes on the topic:

You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you. Allen, James

He who would be useful, strong, and happy must cease to be a passive receptacle for the negative, beggarly, and impure streams of thought; and as a wise householder commands his servants and invites his guests, so must he learn to command his desires and to say, with authority, what thoughts he shall admit into the mansion of his soul. Allen, James

Good thoughts bear good fruit, bad thoughts bear bad fruit. ~James Allen

Work joyfully and peacefully, knowing that right thoughts and right efforts will inevitably bring about right results. ~James Allen

The more man meditates upon good thoughts, the better will be his world and the world at large. ~Confucius

Your ability to use the principle of autosuggestion will depend, very largely, upon your capacity to concentrate upon a given desire until that desire becomes a burning obsession. ~Napoleon Hill

Cherish your visions; cherish your ideals; cherish the music that stirs in your heart, the beauty that forms in your mind, the loveliness that drapes your purest thoughts, for out of them will grow delightful conditions, all heavenly environment; of these if you but remain true to them, your world will at last be built. ~James Allen

Keep track of your self-talk and replace what needs to go…Just do it! 🙂

Wishing you an abundance of peace, joy and love,
