On Being Authentic – And Being Disliked

People pleasing-saying no-Cheryl Richardson

Hello Dear One,

As a young girl I struggled with this — low/damaged sense of self led to wanting to be liked and loved by all. But let me tell you (!!!) … the freedom (and joy) that comes from releasing that need (which comes from being a broken spirit) is simply astounding – and so very empowering!

But it can’t be callously done… you can’t just stop giving a damn about what others think… period. It’s more healthy to care… to a point. Often, we go to the other side of the extreme to compensate for a lack of some kind. We swing waaaayyy over to the other side. From caring too much to caring none at all (supposedly – because deep down you really, still do care).

But there’s an equal dis-ease there as well. Indifference is very seldom really indifference – it’s often simply a refusal to admit or acknowledge that you still do care – in an unhealthy way though.

To remain human, of course we care about being well received and understood. We should care about this. Because the more understanding, the more love.

BUT, if it becomes clear that others are determined to mis-understand and they are essentially hurt people acting out their drama in your space, it’s time to change your level of input. That’s the red flag that says “RELEASE the need/desire for acceptance”… got to keep it moving at that point. Still can love folks, but at a distance.

And listen, if everyone is loving and accepting me (you) then it’s very likely that I am (you are) not standing up for enough. Because the likelihood of us being on one accord with folks in this troubled world on everything is real low. There’s so much to object to and rally against in our world!

Anyway… losing the need to be liked/loved is REALLY empowering. Try it on for a day… but don’t lose your humanity, authenticity and core of love.

Be authentic, the world needs each of us at our authentic best self.

Authentic-Self

Wishing you all that is good and wonderful,
