One Hour Power Exercise: Negative Self-Talk

July 29, 2014 by Julette Leave a Comment

Positive Life - negative mind

Hello My Friend,

I’m sure you know and have experienced the power of positive thoughts and thinking. Likewise, the negative.

By now, I trust you accept that what you think you become. If you doubt that cause/effect relationship, I urge you to experiment with it.

Try having a great day/hour or even a moment when you’re thinking it’s impossible and vice versa.

Science, scripture, ancient philosophers and modern day gurus are all on one accord: Living a positive life is impossible with a negative mind.

But though we know this, we hang on to negativity like an old comfortable chair. It becomes a habit and a way of life.

So, here is an exercise for you to determine just how much of a problem you have on your hands. For one wonderful hour  keep track of how many times you say “I can’t” to yourself or to others and the number of times you say “I can.”

You can include all the variations like:

“I’m so stupid” “I’m not really smart”

“I never do things right” “I always try my best”

“I’m a mess” “I really have it together”

“Here I go again…” “I can’t wait to work this one out!”

“I hate myself” “I love myself”

And on and on and on….

Just keep track. I doubt seriously you are unclear about the power of negative and positive self-talk.

It clearly is what defines and creates our attitude, emotions, beliefs and actions.

If you find your negative self-talk is much more pervasive than you thought, I urge you to go on a negativity fast – start small and work yourself up to longer more challenging periods of time.

Don’t beat yourself up about your negative thinking — that’s of course just creating more layers of negative self-talk.

It is what it has been and how it is now and tomorrow is entirely up to you.

Here are a few of my favorite quotes on the topic:

Positive - Bob Marley

Thoughts-today and tomorrow- James Allen quote

He who would be useful, strong, and happy must cease to be a passive receptacle for the negative, beggarly, and impure streams of thought; and as a wise householder commands his servants and invites his guests, so must he learn to command his desires and to say, with authority, what thoughts he shall admit into the mansion of his soul.  James Allen

Good thoughts - James Allen

Right Thoughts quote-James Allenjpg

The more man meditates upon good thoughts, the better will be his world and the world at large. ~Confucius

Confucius quote- good-thoughts

Your ability to use the principle of autosuggestion will depend, very largely, upon your capacity to concentrate upon a given desire until that desire becomes a burning obsession. ~Napoleon Hill

Cherish your visions; cherish your ideals; cherish the music that stirs in your heart, the beauty that forms in your mind, the loveliness that drapes your purest thoughts, for out of them will grow delightful conditions, all heavenly environment; of these if you but remain true to them, your world will at last be built. ~James Allen

Self-talk James Allen

Keep track of your self-talk and replace what needs to go…

Just do it! 🙂

Sending you an abundance of peace, joy and love,
