Self-assessment of Your Kindness Mindset

[ Day 12 of our 21-Day Kindness Adventure – see previous messages here]

Hello!

I hope your last 2 days in the WORK venue was uplifting and at the very least an eye-opener.  Today, even if you are not actually at work, continue with a kindness mindset towards work.

What is a kindness mindset in the work venue? An inclination towards finding solutions for everyday work-related issues, tasks and challenges in a manner that is supportive, team-oriented and generous in spirit.

For those in a career-track  environment, some of you may think “but I can’t be competitive, looking out for my best career interest at work and be all of THAT too!”  You actually can. This article in Psychology Today speaks to that dilemma. [►  http://bit.ly/fwuTTV   ]

There is most definitely a way to go for “the win” while avoiding negativity and stinginess of spirit.

You have to reflect on your specific work situation and consider your values and beliefs as you choose your daily actions.  If kindness is a value of yours – which apparently it is as you’re here in this program 🙂 – and you believe in living a kind life, then your decisions and behaviors at work and about work must be considered as part of your most important  life choices -because they are!  🙂

Kindness throughout your life, in all venues of your life is essential. Who we are at work comes home with us though we may try our best to become our nicer self – or some cases our less kind self – we are in fact one person and these different approaches, attitudes and behaviors in various venues are all within you causing conflicts and inner struggles that manifests in some sort of negative way, eventually.

Time for some self-reflection:

Today consider your mindset – at work and towards work and see if it lines up with your commitment to kindness in all venues.

—Consider the changes you might have to make to achieve alignment

—Consider the actions you need to take to make the necessary changes in thought and behavior

—Consider the benefits you will achieve as you make these changes

Ask yourself, on a scale of 1 – 10, how kind am I 1) towards my self 2) in my relationships 3) in the home venue and 4) in the work venue? [Remember “work” includes school if you’re a student and/or your own business, if you are an entrepreneur.]

Consider these different assessments – is there one that is significantly less than the others? Focus on how to improve in that area first.

If you are dissatisfied with the assessment in all four venues, you’ll want to spend some time in quiet reflection to get a better understanding of why that is.  You can also ask trusted friends, colleagues and family to provide some insight on how you are perceived. Often we are not perceived the way we think we are.

I suggest you spend today and tomorrow thinking, reflecting and inquiring…and then plan your next steps.

If being more kind is something you are committed to, these honest assessments are essential as you move forward.

Don’t forget to read the note you wrote a few days ago…about what you love about yourself. Spend 10 minutes in quiet stillness, imagining yourself being kind in situations that are challenging and consequently, very rewarding.

Finally, do something spontaneous and wonderful, random and kind for someone today. Let it just occur during the course of your day.

Wishing you an abundance of love, joy and light,

Julette

P.S. We will move onto the Community/POW Venue next – think of some wonderful/creative/powerful acts of kindness to perform!
