Hello Dear One!
You know what…Upon reading the first 3-word sentence, I was mouth-open appalled at the nerve of the Singer company being so blatantly sexist!
BUT, I have to say, on reflection I totally agree with the principle behind the specifics.
Approaching something (ANYthing) you are fully committed to with a clear mind and true excitement makes perfect sense.
So much so that I try to bring my best game, wear my best and look my best every chance I get.
I work from home mostly and there’s nothing like looking fabulous while I work, just for me and my mindset. It matters!
These concerns expressed here in the Singer Sewing Manual were indicative of those times so while we may not be fearful of a “visitor stopping by,” we have surely replaced those fears with some of our own equally ridiculous sounding ones. Truly, some of our fears today are no more reasonable than those in days past. Just reflect on some of yours :-).
Here are the universal, timeless gems in this bit of advice:
1) Prepare yourself mentally for _______________. (Whatever you are about to do! Mentally, Emotionally, Spiritually, Physically)2) Think about what you are going to do. (Don’t just “feel” about what you are about to do.)
3) Good results are difficult when indifference predominates. ( Not “difficult” I’d say – just about impossible! So be passionate about your pursuits!)
4) When there are urgent chores, do these first so your mind is free to enjoy ______________. (You decide what is urgent; housekeeping could be – fact is, we enjoy life much more when we do first things first.)
5) Make yourself as attractive as possible. (Do it for you and for the people around you; looking our best helps us to create a habit of excellence – and sends a message to the brain (and to others) that we are committed to excellence.
Point is… we enjoy life more when we are free from fear and looking fabulous! Lol
Secondary points… look for the good and the positive in every situation, including sexist writings! 🙂
Wishing you an abundance of joy and productivity,
